Possible Badger Den

Possible badger den near Goldfield, Nevada. A badger was recently run over on State HWY 95. I scouted the area near the accident scene and came across these two locations, one probable, the other not.

This tentative identification was only possible through the help of my good friend, professional ecologist Jim Boone, Phd. He is the authority on wildlife in central and southern Nevada. His badger page is here:

He says, “Badgers are chiefly nocturnal. In the southwest, they mostly occur in desert valleys with deep soils that permit easy digging, but they also get up into the mountains. Uncommon around Las Vegas, keep an eye out everywhere, but don’t expect to see them anywhere.”
