My 1,000th Post

This is my 1,000th post at this site. Posting began here in 2013. I have been writing on the internet since mid-1994 and before that in walled gardens like Compuserve as well as bulletin boards before that. I did quite a lot of daily posting at privateline.com in the early 2,000’s.

What have I learned?

My readers are mostly poetry lovers and some fans of literature. Stats tell me my most popular pages are an Indeed.com review, information on Kessingner Publishing, a poem called High Flight, and a poem by A.E. Housman.

I know nothing about the demographics of my readers as I have never looked into that.

I’m proud that I’ve never littered this site with ads, asked people to sign up for a newsletter or asked them to donate. Read or go away in peace.

People skim as they have always done online. Publishing well reasoned arguments on the web continues to be pointless because no one wants to read. They want video and audio and pictures of cats. Fine.

But I write what I want when I want because I am a writer and I must get my thoughts out. A bird has to sing. Even when no one is listening.

My fellow birds understand that.

Thank you for reading. Thomas
