From Tomorrow On

Written by an unknown child in a Nazi death camp and translated from the Yiddish by Joseph Leftwich.

From Tomorrow On

From tomorrow on I shall be sad,
From tomorrow on.
Not today. Today I will be glad.
And every day. mo matter how bitter it may be,
I shall say:
From tomorrow on I shall be sad,
Not today.

From a Gathering of Poems, edited by Maxwell Nurnberg. Pocket Books, New York (1969, second ed. 1975)
